INNOCENT ROSE
Project Brief
My Client, Skyelani Raye who is a young Book Writer needed an eyecatching book cover that could grab the interest of a viewer. She wanted to use a “Dying Rose” to symbolize her main character of the book and gave me the liberty to lead with that. She also provided me with a reference image of what she had in mind.
Reference Object
This is the reference image my client provided and I visualised how I can make the final product work out in the best way possible. Client wanted to use an illustration but I suggested her that a real rose (Photoshopped to look wilting) would look far more bold and viewers could see the details of the Dying Rose. She agreed and I started the work of creating the perfect Dying Rose for the cover.
Original Rose
After searching through loads of Stock Images, I came across this one and I knew this was the one. So, I downloaded it and started photoshopping it.
Work-in-Progress
Here are some stages of turning the original rose into a slowly wilting one using photoshop. I also added a falling petal for capturing the essence of a Dying Rose better.

FINAL WORK
Changes Made
- ◆ Background Removal of Rose & replacement of stem
- ◆ Wilting Visual Effects added to the Rose
- ◆ Falling petal added
-
◆ Title and Author's Name
- ◆ Flare added for depth in the background
Client was impressed of the final product and was glad I came up with the idea of using a real rose instead of an illustration. She thought the book cover actually reflected her content and it captured the essence of her main character.
